[personal profile] froodle posting in [community profile] eerieindiana
Welcome to the Eerie, Indiana community on Dreamwidth! Thank you for stopping by, and congratulations on your excellent taste in kids’ TV from the early nineties.

This post will eventually contain links to all the fanworks, challenges, prompts, memes, series rewatches, character discussions, episode discussions, interesting interviews or news articles, and everything else you might need to know about the Eerie fandom in general or [profile] eerie_indiana in particular.

It is currently unfinished and likely to remain a work in progress as this fandom is amazing and creates new fanworks faster than I can tag or index them.

In the meantime, I suggest you check out our "fanworks" and "comm event" tags to see what is on offer. Consider starting with a trip to Better Weird Than Dead: An Eerie, Indiana Fic Fest, a quick look at the information below, and maybe working up some tasty fandom treats of your own?

If you’re new here, consider making an introductory post (not obligatory!).You could let us know who your favourite characters are, which episodes you like best, the lines that make you laugh or the scenes that stand out in your mind. Maybe you watched Eerie when it first aired, maybe you discovered it when it re-ran in the late ’90s, or maybe it’s a more recent find. Tell us how you came across it and why it spoke to you.

We’re a pretty active community, with prompts, challenges and fanworks being posted up on a regular basis. Have a look at our Masterposts to see what’s on offer. If you enjoy someone’s labour of fannish love, don’t forget to leave a comment letting the creator know. We also have a series rewatch starting September 15th, but that shouldn’t stop you from doing your own and sharing your thoughts in the interim.

In terms of participation, there’s no minimum or maximum level of interaction required. If you prefer to lurk and read, that’s fine. If you’re happiest only commenting on other people’s posts, that’s fine too. And if you want to make posts of your own, here’s a guide to some of the stuff people have shared in the past to get you started:

We welcome all sorts of fanworks here; fic and art, photoshops and poems, podfics and icons and filk, cosplay and crafting and screenshots. Got a specific headcanon or fan theory you want to share? Post it up. Persistent plot-bunny not letting you be? Consider putting it up for adoption. Bursting with creative energy and looking to make someone’s day? Maybe you could make a post inviting prompts from the community. Live-tweeting an episode or recording an audio-commentary track for one? Let us know where we can find it. It could be that there’s a creepy abandoned building in your neighbourhood that reminds you of the show; if that’s the case, take a picture or shoot a video and share it on here!

This also holds true for things that are Eerie-adjacent. If you want to talk about the music of Gary Chang or Dean Friedman, great. Seen a movie by Joe Dante recently, or caught that one episode of Z Nation with Justin Shenkarow? That’s information relevant to our interests. If it involves the creators, cast or crew of Eerie, it’s worth sharing on here. If you have a deep and abiding love of John Astin as Gomez Addams, or Omri Katz as Max from Hocus Pocus, I guarantee you won’t be the only one enthusiastically discussing it. Interviews with people involved with the show or articles about it should definitely be shared here.

There were a lot of influences that went into creating Eerie, Indiana, and a lot of pop culture references thrown into the episodes. So if you want to talk about Twin Peaks (the old TV show, the movie, or the upcoming third season), that’s awesome. Same goes for old monster movies and the horror icons that made them, so feel free to share your love of Boris Karloff or Vincent Price here.

And of course, Eerie in turn influenced what came after it. The creators of Gortimer Gibbons and Gravity Falls have openly stated that they drew on Eerie when creating their own little centres of weirdness. Welcome to Night Vale, American Gothic (the 90's show starring Gary Cole, not the 2016 one with poor-man's Aaron Paul) and Carnivale could easily share a universe with Eerie. The upcoming Stranger Things is already drawing comparisons with the show, and Brian K. Vaughn’s ongoing comic series Paper Girls is what we might have gotten if Syndi and not Marshall had been the central character. If a book, show, movie, podcast or song makes you think of Eerie, it’s the sort of thing we want to know about, probably in great detail.

Aside from that, normal internet etiquette applies: big images or long blocks of text behind a cut, warn for adult content, if you’re sharing someone else’s work credit to the creator. We’ve got tags set up for the more common types of fanworks and most of the characters, but if you forget or you’re not sure, myself or [profile] eviinsanemonkey will go in and tag your creation for you, as well as creating an author tag with your username.

If you do have questions, you can message us, or leave a comment on the sticky post at the top of the comm. Most of all, though, please relax, enjoy yourself, and have fun. Sooner or later we’ll all be eaten by world-dominating dogs or written out of existence by a magical script, so we may as well have a good time while we can.

Fanworks: Transformative Works Policy

If you've created fanworks for Eerie, Indiana, could you please leave a comment on this post letting us know if you are okay with other people taking your fanwork and using it for any or all of the following:
  • podficcing
  • remixing
  • translating
  • creating sequels or other works in the same 'verse
  • creating fanart for fanfiction, or vice versa
  • creating icons or banners based on their fanart
  • further modifying icons (a.k.a. using them as a "base")
  • creating fanmixes for fanworks
  • anything else you can think of

[personal profile] froodle: I am totally okay with anyone taking anything I create and using it to create more stuff for the Eerie, Indiana fandom. Podfics, fanart, continuations of stories I wrote... have at it. However, please post a link to it here on [profile] eerie_indiana so I can see it and squeal about it and tell you how much you rock.
[profile] eviinsanemonkey: blanket permission for further transformation. Credit and a link to the finished work, please.
[personal profile] deifire: All of my transformative works are always available for further transformation. I ask only for credit and a link to the finished product.
[personal profile] slinkhard: I haven't really made much but lo-fi icons, but anyone can do whatever they want with those.
[personal profile] lipstickcat: The only thing I've done for the Eerie fandom so far is a pony, which isn't very recordable. But as and when I am productive again, please feel free to do whatever with it, just give me a poke so I can see it too!
[personal profile] chibimarchy/[personal profile] ftrbestseller: If anyone is inspired by anything I make for the Eerie fandom and expands on it, please go for it! Just post it here so we can all enjoy it!
(applies to any works I posted under my chibimarchy account, which I will eventually purge & redo on this one)
[personal profile] shadowrider: I'm fine with people using my fics in most ways as long as I get word about it. :)
