Doubting Tom on the Hocus Pocus sequel book

For a book that is written in such a cinematic fashion that it has a choreographed musical number in the middle, I found it fairly difficult to picture what was going on at several places, particularly toward the end.

And, like, I'm one of those people who has the full-on movie playing in my head when I read. That is not something I typically struggle with. But especially in the big climactic battle, I couldn't keep track of where people were or picture how a lot of events could have happened.

Which may have been a consequence of reading it fairly quickly because I wanted to be done with this book that I started reading before Halloween, and maybe if I went back and took more time, I'd have an easier time.

But...I don't know.
Aside from a decent premise, it's just so bogged down in being a sequel and doing everything you remember from the first installment that it never comes close to standing on its own.

It's not really clear who it's *for*, unless there's a market of current tweens whose parents raised them on this movie, which is actually very likely nevermind.

The thing it most reminded me of, and this is something I've dredged up from very distant memories, but I read a junior novelization of the Aladdin movie in 1992. This is like that. Or maybe like the Eerie, Indiana tie-in novels that came out 5 years after the original show ended

I may be misremembering, but I think the Aladdin book also did the "let's write out the lyrics and describe the musical numbers because the poor kid reading this can't afford the VHS" thing too.

Anyway, I lost this thread. It ends with a sequel hook that involves a teen girl we've never met spending a full year in Hell, so that's cool.
