Eerie Indiana: The Other Dimension Comm Rewatch Episode 9 Discussion Post

Welcome welcome to our first ever Comm rewatch of Eerie, Indiana's equally short lived spin-off: Eerie, Indiana: the Other Dimension! Join us as we follow Mitchell Taylor and Stanley Hope on their quest to understand the weirdness of their home town!

Episode 9: Little Buddy Beep Beep

Just a few ground rules:

  • Remember, comments section will have spoilers for the episodes we're watching.

  • No bashing of characters, ships, or actors.

  • No bashing of the show itself. It's not Original Flavor Eerie, but we all know that going in. Critique is fine, but no outright hate.

  • Play nice and have fun!

(I really gotta get caught up cuz this is one of my favorite episodes!)

i get it. it's a bit odd to assign a sexuality to a 13 year old but hearing him so freakin earnestly ask oscar to come over to his house to watch movies and look so heartbroken when he says no. that feels intentional.

"I know what I like, and I stick to it!" Mitchell Taylor Autism moment.
I also think Oscar is one of the few, if not only Non-Stanley friend Mitchell has.

It's kinda fucked to make a toy you can only play with once...somehow it reminds me of disposable vapes...

The colour is a bit weird on this episode. the shadows are blue in some shots. probably a colour grading issue.

Speaking of colour. This episode is so blue and sterile for an episode about toys. incheresting contrast.

Mitchell's interstials are very on point in this episode, really snappy. I think Bill Switzer does an exceptional job in this episode.

Also, i am bemused by the fact that this episode from 1998 is like uh oh! don't get addicted to technology and forget about your real life! and now we live basically live in a 24/7 addicted to technology world. humanity is a flat circle of unchecked capitalism. Also can someone smarter than me relate this back to AI. I feel like you could make that comparison.

It's kinda funny that Stanley has a pager to communicate with his absent mother. In a sad sort of way.

The FMV's in this episode are so weird looking. in a good 90s weird kinda way. Reminiscent of the Adventure games being made around the time. The Buddy Beep Beep frame bares striking resemblance to the frame used in the Goosebumps '96 release.

I really like the toy factory sets, they're kooky, but also unnerving and full of big empty spaces.

On a more serious note, I think this episode really tries to communicate a message about abuse, and the cycle of it that I find endearing. Also it has my favourite shot of mitchell in the whole series that ive been using as my icon for like. 5 years lol.
