Eerie, Indiana rewatch 2017: episode one, Foreverware

There's something about hearing the theme tune that instantly makes me think of the autumn - we've had the cooler weather and the leaf fall for a few weeks already but watching it, with the light fading from the sky and the rain patterning against the windpws, really makes September september, if that makes sense

totally makes sense.

we're in the it's fcking cold in the morning but way too hot in the afternoon part of the season right now, but still watching Eerie makes fall feel more official.

The weather this past couple of weeks realy hasn't known what to do with itself. I arrived in Manchester last Saturday to weather so warm and sunny I sat outside in a sleeveless dress eating breakfast and got really badly sunburned, only for the next day to pour with freezing rain so I had to wear a fluffy coat and a waterproof anorak over it. It hasn't made its mind up since -
Today we went out for lunchtime waffles and there were people in heavy knit jumpers, in t shirts, in big winter coats - none of us know how to dress for what the weather is doing because the weather doesn't know itself. All of which makes staying inside where I can instantly go from a vest top to a duvet and popsocks even more appealing.

Horrifying realization: We're not quite as far away in time from Eerie's debut episode as 1964 was from it, but we're getting really close...

Oh glob, I think that's next year isn't it? So... old...

I sympathize more and more with Betty Wilson with every passing year...though on the other hand, I'm glad I only spent one of those years in 7th grade...

At this stage, where I have to make sure I get proper sleep and eat real food or my body tried to kill me, I wish I could have frozen myself as a twenty year old who could eat plastic and sit up all night playing ratchet and clank and still be fine.

If I had kids unwound so not freeze them as seventh graders tho. Cruel to me and them.

I've loved this show for like 20 years give or take and I JUST NOTICED the Foreverware ladies last names...

second. how did no one wonder why the twins were still in 7th grade? Did she start homeschooling them or were they still going to school? bcuz if they were still going to school...

also do you think Radford seals himself in Foreverware at night?

Which Radford though? Because I think Fred Suggs just ages normally but John Astin Radford is most likely functionally immortal, no giant rubber kitchenware required.

but i bet eventually someone posits the theory that Astin Radford uses Foreverware

and by someone I mean Mars.

And he has a vision board with his whole theory laid out and it involves loads of old pictures of Radford at various points in history looking exactly the same and he confronts Radford and Radford just casually admits yep,that's him in a 17th century Dutch oil painting and Marshalls like AHA I KNEW IT and Radfords like dead nonplussed, like yeah I just literally said that, and Marshall is really sad because it's not a conspiracy at all,it's a thing everyone was aware of.

Bf Skinner though. Principal Togar didn t notice when he hired a mind controlling optometrist as the school nurse, he probably just thinks bert and Ernie aren't that bright.

Yeah but somehow I doubt there was a whole lot of brain there to wash...

it's true. that's probably why she got hired so quick and easy and no one questioned why the school nurse was doing eye exams

I bet she had a whole spiel prepared to explain that and trick the first adults into her chair and they kinda shrugged and let it happen and she's stood next to her brainwashing machine kinda like, oh, okay.

It always amuses me that at the end of the episode Marshall is like 'whelp I guess that's problem solved' when in fact there are still children being sealed in Foreverware and I presume they're still trying to sell it to the new people in town.

he's like the threat is no longer aimed at my family, all is well.

if there was a way in Zombies in PJs for Marshall to save only his family, (including Simon, of course) than I imagine he would have gone with that one.

Like, maybe Radford too, but yeah, if he doesn't have a personal connection to you, you can quite literally go to hell.

"Every other house on my block is now a giant five layer ForeverWare container, but as long as I have normal doors and windows, ehh, who cares?"

In his defence i think Betty was like the head of the whole thing, so there's an element of cutting The head off the snake in taking her out as a threat. Plus assuming Bert and Ernie are her heirs, I imagine they'll be taking steps to dismantle her empire.

Also, wasn't it Simon who was actually witnessing the Foreverware party? So for all Mars knows it's just Betty Wilson sealing her kids in Foreverware.

Tho later in Hole in the Head Gang we discover this is not the case...

I will give Mars a pass for that one tho,as he was being held at gunpoint and forced into a life of crime at the time of the reveal. I mean, he wasn't being held at gunpoint terribly well, but it's still a gun.

Ive actually never thought of it like that but now that you've pointed it out it made me laugh really hard.
