So, following this comment thread, I was wondering... what cocktails do you think they serve in Eerie? What's on the specials board at the Loyal Order of Corn? What's the Mayor throwing back after a hard day, or raising a glass of in celebration when he successfully feeds a teenage boy to a slavering wolfman? And in the alternate reality where Eerie was a juggernaut fandom with it's very own annual convention and a hotel bar decked out in yellows and greens and giant inter-dimensional TV sets, what's on the menu for thirsty fans looking for a pleasantly alcoholic beverage?

I like this film alot (Big fan of Bob Balaban as a director in general) but this sits uneasily in two camps. It should either have been alot lighter or (preferably) a lot darker. You can't have a zombie character sneezing off their own flesh & then keep it PG.

I think if I'd seen this film when I was a kid, along with Eerie Indiana (also directed by Balaban) I'd have thought it was the best thing ever

(but this was a time when I had to beg my parents to let me see BEETLEJUICE because it was rated 15)

8. The Marshmallow Ghosts

Supposedly out of Eerie, Indiana (haha, nice one, guys), Graveface the label's the Marshmallow Ghosts describe its sound as "all-year-round Halloween music for kiddish adults." Sounds about right. The group puts out an album every October on Graveface, and this year is the group's 10th anniversary, so the new release The Marshmallow Ghosts & the Spooky Sideshow is extra special.

Q: I’m having a horror-themed Halloween movie party. Are there any Indiana-based films or TV shows I can include?

A: For a state that looks like an elaborate Children of the Corn backdrop, the pickings are slim. On the movie front, there’s An American Crime, a retelling of the loathsome Sylvia Likens murder that, honestly, sounds like an awful party flick. Happily, the small screen offers better options, including the NBC series Eerie, Indiana, which ran for only 19 episodes in the early ’90s, but earned a substantial cult following. Then there’s the gold standard of Hoosier horror, Netflix’s Stranger Things. Set in the fictional Indiana town of Hawkins, it’s basically a salute to ’80s horror-movie tropes, with monsters in rubber suits, scary government agents, and a group of plucky grade-schoolers on bicycles. The show’s second season comes out this month, so heat up some pizza rolls and call your friends.
