"You're over-reacting," said Syndi.

"If I had a dollar for every time somebody said that," said her brother, "I could buy a plane ticket back to Jersey, and live a life where I wasn't beseiged by horror and weirdness on every corner, and maybe then I wouldn't have to over-react because nothing would be constantly trying to eat my face off."

Syndi rolled her eyes.

"Look," said Mars. "Are you going to help me or not? I could try and do this myself, but I really think you'd be a better fit."

Syndi snatched up the proffered envelope and together, the siblings turned to survey the large plate-glass store front across the street.

"MANICURES!" read the sign. "EYEBROW TINTING! MASSAGE! WHOLESALE FACES!"

"It's just badly worded," said Syndi. "It probably means discounted group rates or special package deals or something."

"Well, if it does, you just got a free spa day out of me," said Marshall. "But if you get in there and there's a freezer full of skinned human faces, you'll be helping me save lives." He handed her a backpack bulging with surveillance equipment - camcorder, Polaroid, spare film, spare batteries - as well as the usual things any well-prepared paranormal investigator carried as a matter of course.

Syndi raised an eyebrow.

"Is that the road flare from Dad's roadside emergency kit?" she asked.

"Dad can't even fight off egg-wielding kindergartners," said Mars, a little defensively. "He's got no business playing around with fire and explosives."

"Yes," said Syndi. "Seems like all the men in our family have similar issues."

"Shut up," said Mars.
