Eerie, Indiana fanfiction: National Garlic Day

Apparently April 19th was National Garlic Day, so in the slightly belated spirit of that:



The wild garlic was in bloom and, as they did every year, the Eerie Coalition for Vampire Rights had commenced a letter writing campaign to the Mayor’s office demanding that the offending herb be removed on the grounds of public health and safety.

Just as they had done in previous years, Eerie Eats, a loose association of loosely-termed restauranteurs operating within city limits, had launched a competing campaign of public protest. Their stance was that garlic was delicious, that it formed an integral part of many of their establishments’ most popular dishes, and to eradicate it would bring ruin to Eerie’s small businesses and the vibrancy of the downtown area.

Spring turned into summer, and in a development even more inevitable than the changing of the seasons, political discourse escalated into conflict, in the form of all-out prank warfare.

Eerie Eats mailed the Vampire Coalition packets of rice and sand bags that exploded upon opening, trapping the unfortunate bloodsuckers within their castles for days as they attempted to count each grain. The vampires retaliated (eventually) by converting lovers of French and Italian food to members of the undead, reducing popular support for the restaurateurs within the wider community.

As had happened once a year as far back as anyone could remember, the Mayor and his intimates on the City Council continued to accept bribes in the form of both free meals and eternal – or at least considerably extended – life from either side.
