Eerie, Indiana double drabble: Trick or Treat?

"Eerie Eyeball Teacakes!" screamed the foil packaging, day-glow green lettering against a black background decorated with cartoon skeletons.

"It's probably just Halloween marketing, right?" said Simon.

Marshall nodded, the gesture more than a little hesitant. Holding a set of eyebrow tweezers in each hand, he cautiously peeled back the crinkly, shimmering wrapping. The teacake sat there, innocuous within it's thin chocolate-flavoured coating.

Marshall took a deep breath.

"Cover me, Simon," he said. "I'm going in."

Moving quickly, trying his best not to think about what he was about to do, he snatched the marshmallow treat from the small china serving platter, cramming it into his mouth in one rapid motion.

Simon gasped.

Marshall chewed.

"Oh my God," he said, his mouth still full. White fondant oozed from the corners of his mouth and he gasped and gagged. Fragments of shortbread flew into the air and Simon jumped back, his arms raised in a futile attempt to shield himself.

"What is it?" he said. "Marshall, what's wrong? Do we need to instigate Operation: Mercy Kill?"

Marshall picked up a glass of water and took a long drink.

"It's exactly the same as the regular teacakes," he said. And then, "Wait, Operation what?"
