Written for Day 22 of the
31_days Ocober challenge. The prompt was "Bed head"
There were twigs and dead leaves caught in Marshall's hair. It wasn't fruit-pebbles levels of disaster, but it wasn't that far off either.
"Have you got a comb?" he asked Dash, yanking at what felt like an entire tree branch tangled at the nape of his neck.
Dash gave him a long look from beneath his own unruly grey fringe.
"No," he said flatly.
"Dash, I can't go home looking like this," Marshall said. "My parents already had a meltdown over the haircut. If I show up with half a forest sticking out of my head, they're going to murderize me."
"Yeah, that sounds like a real problem," said Dash. "I bet they'll be all upset about the cuts and scratches too. What a drag."
Marshall pulled him to his feet.
"They are never going to believe I got these fighting a wood sprite," he said.
"You didn't really fight it," said Dash. "You just kind of screamed and flailed and it got freaked out and ran away."
"We've made out here like a dozen times," said Marshall defensively. "How was I supposed to know this was it's sacred grove or whatever?"
"Nature hates you," said Dash.
