Slowly, the long line of black thread that had been Sylvester Squirrel's ever-smiling mouth unravelled. Rows of teeth sharp and shining as needles flashed in the sun.
Harley stared at him, then back at the lop-sided birthday cake in the middle of a tattered picnic blanket. Smoke from seven newly-extinguished candles drifted in the light spring breeze. He smiled.
Simon put an arm around his baby brother's shoulders and gave him a squeeze.
"Looks like your birthday wish came true, huh?" he said.
Harley nodded.
