Stranger Things Indeed!

I grew up in the 80's...it hit me at 8 in 84 in Los Angeles during the summer olympics in my grandpas car hungry for a double cheeseburger going thru a mcdonalds drive thru...and i said it out loud..."there is magic in the air"...i felt it...Goonies and E.T. and Indiana Jones and Young Shelock Holmes...the list could go on...to the clothes...the music...Reagan....that time period was like the zenith of human civilization...and we lived it...especially here in America...

It will never be as good....

This show captured it....i had a nerdgazm every time the title graphic and music kick in....ahhhh!!!! Fantasic!

The title graphic was awesome, it was so evocative of the font on the cheap paperback horrors I'd buy second-hand from the newsagents back in the 80s!

Yes! It reminds me of all those old Stephen King paperbacks, some of which I still have.

And the show itself? All the Stephen King movies I watched when I was probably too young. And E.T. and the Goonies, and of course, Eerie...

It could have easily devolved into pure cheesiness at any point, and I think the force of the nostalgia would have made me keep watching, but it's really good! I wound up believing in every single one of the characters.

One of the things I really liked, and I think only worked because it was a TV show and not a movie, was that instead of it being one person who knows what's going on and everyone else thinking they're nuts and not believing them, over time Winona Ryder and Mike both managed to convince the people in their lives of what was going on.

Also, I am so weirdly pleased that Steve didn't turn out to be a total shitheel!

Yes! I thought for sure they were going for a complete stereotype with Steve, but they didn't.

And you're right, a movie never would have given us the time for this level of plot and character development. And they did a great job casting the kids.

And have... I keep calling her Sinead because she looks exactly like a girlI work with called Sinead, but Mikes sister... end up with Jonathan, even though its weird and creepy to take picutres of undressing girls without their consent or even knowledge and nobody should date that guy...

And YES on the casting, I had no idea how used to hollywood kidface id become til i saw regular looking kids on tv and was shocked.

I am so glad they just didn't gloss that over, but actually had several lines of dialogue about how that was not okay.

Like straightup, i didnt think that redhead girl who saw em in the darkroom did anything wrong, except maybe not going straight to the police or a teacher...

i'm kind of frustrated right now because Eleven feels like she's just a plot device. like the River Tam of this show.

idk. I hope she develops more/actually has something else to her character besides weird shit trivia for Mike and his friends.

i'm on ep 5.

Late to the party, but I just finished Stranger Things and came to seek out this post.

I loved it! It freaked me out just the right amount without making me want to stop watching. The whole character development and the way the plot unfolded was brilliant. Though the monster and the upside down world was very Silent Hill...

Oh my god YES that thing was a total SH bobblehead nurse and the upside.down was silent hill when the fog comes down.

The upside down version of fort.byers was heartbreaking, something that should have meant safety qnd security and being surrounded by the people who have your back no matter what was this cold damp wreck,and STILL the best he could find gave me the absolute shudders

I was thinking even that it was the worm dog sausage monster thing from the very first SH game with the way its face splits open. When they were firing rocks at it in the last ep for a moment I thought "that's even how you kill the SH monster - by shooting it in the mouth!"

The one thing that I did wonder about the upside down world was if they had cars and objects, and food too in both worlds, but no people, what about the cars that were being driven in the normal world? Did they just not turn up in upside down world until they stopped moving?

That bit really remind me of when IT became the glowy spider thing and they shot silver at it. You gotta take out monsters with catapults, that's the 80s gang of kid take on monsters rule!
