Eerie, Indiana fanfiction: Window Paint

The floor-to-ceiling windows that looked out over Eerie Elementary's over-grown playing field had been painted for the Christmas holidays. A slightly dyspeptic Santa Claus loomed up out of a blood-red sleigh wreathed in thorns, his yellow eyes surveying the small army of emaciated elves that cowered before him.

There was a rippling murmur of unease among the assembled adults. Pockets of hesitant applause broke out before sputtering away into embarrassed silence. The art teacher, a young man with pale fly-away hair and glasses perpetually on the verge of sliding off the end of his nose, shot a hating look at the paint-smeared children standing proud before their creation.

"It's... very nice?" said Marilyn, uncertainly.

"Yes," said Edgar. "Well done, Harley." He turned to Simon. "You must be very proud."

"He drew the outlines for the Gatling guns all by himself," said Simon, nodding happily. "I helped him out with the research and the other kids in his class filled in the painted bits, but the sketches were all his."

"How totally age-appropriate," said Syndi.

"Ignore her," said Mars. "She's just mad because it doesn't involve her on a unicorn."

"There is a two-headed reindeer," offered Simon.

"That won't be enough," Syndi muttered, staring at the ground. "It'll come back and pose at me again, I know it."

"Honey..." Marilyn began, at the same time as Edgar said "What?"

"Well, I like the two-headed reindeer," said Mars, giving Syndi a warning look.

"I think it's actually two reindeer just standing close together," said Marilyn.

"Shows what you know," said Mars.

OMG, this is hilarious! I just saw the sketch in WIP Wednesday and was wondering about the 2-headed reindeer...

that window from the wip post is actually a (very bad) drawing of a real set up i saw walking home. it had been done with stencils and fake snow, not paint, and presumably the reindeer stencil slipped which is why it looked like it had two heads, and yet...

I love how Simon is just like. Good ol' big brother about it. Like he has accepted Harley as he is and just goes with it. It's glorious.
