Episode 5: The Phantom
Just a few ground rules:
- Remember, comments section will have spoilers for the episodes we're watching.
- No bashing of characters, ships, or actors.
- No bashing of the show itself. It's not Original Flavor Eerie, but we all know that going in. Critique is fine, but no outright hate.
- Play nice and have fun!

Date: 2025-03-10 01:22 pm (UTC)I think that trope kind of applies to this episode, and maybe the show in general compared to the 92' series. This episode is clearly in conversation with Broken Record and Who's Who, but unlike in the 92 series where the abuse is forthright, because Eerie was so ahead of it's time, it actually found itself ahead of what would become genre tropes. But in '98, Goosebumps, Tales from the Crypt, Freaky, Round the Twist et all had established this trope, which the show now plays into.
Also to say, TOD being part of a defined genre airing on FoxKids means it has a lot less wiggle room in what they're allowed to show - Plus they didn't have a Jose Rivera arguing for them, which may or may not have even helped.
