Eerie, Indiana drabble: Refurbish

A row of skips, bright yellow and overflowing with rolled carpets and crumbling sheets of plaster, sat on the sidewalk than ran alongside the run-down boarding house on the edge of town. Seen from the outside, the dirty red-brick structure didn’t look big enough to have produced so much detritus.

“Not that that means anything,” said Marshall, poking amidst the various rubbish piles with a long stick. “Wouldn’t be the first place in Eerie to be bigger on the inside.”

“I found a proton pack!” exclaimed Simon. Marshall glanced over.

“It’s a vacuum cleaner,” he said.

“Aw,” said Simon, disappointed.

Honestly I'm more surprised that Mars even knows what a hoover looks like, given his avoidance of chores...

I'm convinced there are reality where he grows up to have one of those scary hoarder houses that hasn't been cleaned in decades...

esp. since as cancelled pointed out, a lot of the stuff in the evidence locker just looks like junk, so once it overflows the secret spot and into the rest of the house...

Poor whoever he winds up living with.

By his old age, his house will bear a scary resemblance to the Bureau of Lost.

The crazy old milkman is actually a total favourite target of lodgepoole because no matter how much junk the bureau misappropriates, old!mars always acquires more

I hope "whatever needs to be" in the back of the milk truck include storage for all his clutter...

the back of the milk truck opens into the inner sanctum at the loyal order of corn. nobody can use the giant tv portal anymore as its buried in boxes

Dash has been in a bad mood about this for years and years...

but is it more over the loss of the tv screen or the portal?

Or are both mildly irritating, but the worst part is the way Marshall just presumes using the space is okay, and never even bothers to apologize for the clutter?

Butbutbut *why* wouldn't you want a dozen milk crates full of obsolete technology that once decided to make Simon it's best friend? THATS JUST SCIENCE WHY DO YOU HATE SCIENCE THO

And Dash tries yelling at explaining to Mars that there's a difference between science and piles of useless crap all over the place, and suddenly they're in an argument about whether or not he sounds just like Marshall's dad...
