Foil wrapping in a dozen brilliant colours covered the floor, sparkling in the warm spring sunlight. The air smelled of warm cardboard and melting chocolate, and the glittering drifts rustled in the faint breeze from an over-worked ceiling fan.

Marshall picked up the A4 sheet of lined paper and tried to wipe away some of the smudgy fingerprints.

“Dear Marshall,” he read. “I have taken your Easter Eggs. If you ever want to see them alive again, leave all your birthday money in the pink pig on the second floor landing. NO COPS!!”

He flipped the page over and glanced at the small damp package sellotaped to the reverse of the note. Sticky brown stains were already leaking through the soggy makeshift wrapping. He turned back to the side with writing.

“PS: If you doubt the seriousness of your situation, please open the attached parcel.”

Grimacing at the feel of the wet paper, Marshall slid a finger beneath the sealed flap of the bulky envelope. A half-chewed jumbo-sized Reeses Peanut Butter Cup slithered out of the ragged opening and landed with a splat on the well-worn linoleum.

“Syndi!” he screamed, storming towards the staircase.

Seated primly on the long L-shaped settee that ran the length of their living room, Edgar Teller held a paper across his face, quaking with laughter. Marilyn, her own face half-buried in a red plush sofa cushion, nudged him frantically with one foot

"Hush up!" she whispered, her voice choked with giggles.

Yay! Teller sibling dynamics are the best Easter find!

And I love Marilyn and Edgar's reactions.
