Crossover with Trick 'r Treat and Krampus. A sequel to The Craft. And yes, the title is a reference to Cliff Richard's Mistletoe and Wine, the best Christmas song, fight me if you disagree.
"Oh!" exclaimed Syndi in unfeigned delight, turning the red and gold-wrapped box in her fingers. The soft sodium-yellow glow of the street lamps glinted off the metallic coils of ribbon carefully arranged around a huge central bow. She glanced up.
"I didn't get you anything," she said, her expression guilty.
Danielle shrugged.
"Don't worry about it," she said. "I know you weren't expecting to see us again before Halloween."
Syndi looked around her.
"Are the others with you?" she asked.
"No," said Danielle. "It's just me."
"Oh," said Syndi again, softer this time.
"Are you going to open it?"
"Yes," sad Syndi, giving herself a little shake. "Sorry. Yes." She lifted the snugly-fitting lid, which came away in a sparkling burst of glitter that coated them both in a thin, gleaming layer of gold.
"Oh no!" said Danielle, laughing and brushing at her thick woollen jumper. It had a snowman on it, slightly boss-eyed with a long carrot nose that glowed bright orange in the dim light. Her wolf was out tonight, just a little. It showed in her eyes, in the long curving white of her teeth, in the extra knuckles on the elegant fingers of her manicured hands.
A werewolf in a Christmas jumper, standing on the deserted streets of a small Indiana town on a chilly December night, laughing nervously and trying to get glitter out of her hair. Syndi's gloved hands shook as she fumbled at the layers of winter-green tissue paper.
"Oh!" she said, for the third time that night. The heavy iron bell clanked dolefully as she lifted it free, the burnished metal shining a rich earthy brown as she turned it this way and that. Her own name gleamed back at her, pale against the dark surface.
"It's beautiful," she said, pulling off one glove and hefting it in the palm of her suddenly too-hot hand. The bell chimed it's deep, solemn note as it moved.
"It's a Krampus bell," Danielle offered. "A... I guess you could call him a friend of a friend, got it for me. I thought it would look good with your hair."
"It's lovely," said Syndi, moving it back and forth across her palm, relishing the cool feel of it against her skin. She looked up, up, up into Danielle's pale eyes, and swallowed.
"Would you-" she said hoarsely, then coughed and tried again. "Would you like to get a drink with me?"
Danielle grinned. Her incisors were very long.
"I'd like that," she said. "I think I would like that very much."
