5 TV Shows to Watch if You Like Stranger Things

Netflix’s campaign to bolster their own library of exclusive shows is a bit of a hit-and-miss. It would seem like for every groundbreaking show like Daredevil, they also come out with stinkers like Haters Back Off. Fortunately, the really good shows accumulate over time while the bad ones get cancelled. One of the really good shows is the sci-fi horror series, Stranger Things.

Written and directed by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things captured the hearts and minds of viewers with its perfect mix of investigative drama, 80s-inspired thriller, and genuine supernatural horror that does not rely on cheap shock schlock. The good news is that Stranger Things has two seasons that you can binge watch any time you want, and there’s more on the way. The bad news is that the third season won’t be out until summer 2019. So what do you do with your life until then? Easy. You watch other sci-fi/horror shows that will help tide you over until Eleven and the gang returns. Here are five shows to get you started:

1: Eerie, Indiana

This is the odd one out in this list, mainly because it’s an old 90s show not many young people know about because it only lasted 19 episodes. But it is the show on this list that is closest to Stranger Things. For starters, is is set in the same state – the protagonist is a man named Marshall Teller who, upon moving to the state, finds himself in the middle of various supernatural happenings.

Eerie, Indiana can be seen as a precursor to Stranger Things. It mixes humor and horror in equal parts, without sacrificing one for the other. And to hammer home the point: the true stars of Eerie, Indiana are the kids who bring a fresh, childlike innocence that contrasts really well with the spooky stories. Sadly, the show has since been removed from Netflix but it should be easy to hunt for a copy on the Internet, especially since the series has been released on Amazon’s streaming service.
