froodleThe fog coiled lazily around itself, tendrils of white stretching and reforming along the damp ground.
Marshall gave the tripod one last shake to make sure it was steady, adjusted the viewfinder on the too-heavy black camcorder, frowned, and looked up.
"Stop it," he said.
The fog rippled, twisted, shaped itself into the image of a screaming skull, jaws agape, eyes leaking water vapour like tears.
Marshall sighed.
"You're not fooling me," he said. "Everyone knows sentient fog isn't the same as clairvoyant fog. Besides, you've been wrong on every single prediction so far."
The fog drew itself into a passable portrait of Eerie's premier weirdness investigator crushed beneath an enormous video camera, one hand reaching uselessly for help that would never come.
"It isn't that big," said Mars. "You need to get better at perspective if you want to go around scaring people with death omens."
The fog became four letters spelling out a very rude word.
"Well," said Mars, returning the sentiment with a single finger. "If you're going to be like that, I'll just go home and neither of us will end up on Unsolved Mysteries."
The fog hesitated, then wrote "S-O-R-R-Y" across the Teller's front lawn.
