If you’re more of a homebody, maybe you prefer twenty-year-old bologna sandwiches or buckwheat pancakes made from a ForeverWare recipe. Perhaps a celebrity couple called off their wedding a few days before your birthday and you bought their cake on sale, or you just like adding the prefix “Swedish” to everything you cook, Marilyn Teller-style.
Maybe you really enjoy toast made in a haunted toaster, or maybe you hate it whether or not it comes with bank-robbing ghosts. You could be a member of a corn-worshipping cult whose banquets consist of Cornade (or Cornade Lite), huge bowls of fresh-made popcorn and, of course, hot buttered corn on the cob.
Is your favourite snack a jumbo-sized bag of chocolate milk balls (“the balls that go moo!”) or just a carton of the Eerie Dairy’s finest scavenged from the site of another fatal milk-truck accident? Do you feast on a giant plate of ribs the night before a human sacrifice or serve up a portion of space noodles and moon sauce while you search for UFOs?
Whatever your preferences, it’s the tenth of the month, and that means it’s time for our Foods of Eerie Fest. Are you enjoying a refreshing Black Cow after a long day investigating haunted structures, or baking cupcakes decorated with ravens and eyeballs? Share your recipes, post your pics, get out those Eerie-themed travel mugs and head off for a picnic in some ill-advised supernatural hotspot. Eat something spookily delicious and tell us all about it!

Grinning jack-o-lanterns painstakingly woven from dried out corn husks sat in the gloom cast by towering sheathes bound in black and orange twine, corn dollies of more than usually sinister aspect lurked menacingly in every place a little man made of corn could conceivably lurk, and a great cauldron filled with corn syrup and topped with a crisp layer of stover bubbled in one corner.
Across the street, hollowed-out pumpkin faces gibbered and winked. He ignored them all.

Eat something spookily delicious and tell us all about it!

tired of coming of age films being shot in california. give me one in indiana ... I want one where the main character goes to a party at 17 and wakes up near corn field ... one where we watch them spend 20 minutes scraping ice off their car before going somewhere ... it’s time

Eerie Indiana Drabble: Homing Instinct
May. 9th, 2020 02:52 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
"Think he'll find his way home?" asked Tod, looking worried.
Simon nodded.
"The Ratking can always call his people to him," he said. "Once a rat's been part of his collective, the King can find them anywhere. He won't get lost."
"Oh," said Tod. "That's good. Also creepy, but good in this particular instance."
He looked at the shoebox clutched tightly in his white-knuckled, black-nailed hands, and took a deep breath.
"Shall we do this?"

Eerie Indiana Drabble: Panic
May. 9th, 2020 02:29 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
The screaming started a few seconds later, as Everything Corn's razor wire-topped security grills began slamming closed across any possible ingress point. Simon swore he saw a gun port open in the middle of the hand-painted wooden sign over the door, a black glistening barrel pointing through the hole though there was nothing solid on the other side of the dangling placard.
"Okay," said Marshall. "Go now. I'll catch up."

All six of the Grandmas were out front, taking orders, bagging sausage rolls and Chelsea buns, and ringing up customers on two old-fashioned cash registers.
"I feel bad for doing this," said Simon, taking the half-deflated toy monkey out of his backpack and attaching it to one of the Ratking's rat couriers.
"I know," said Marshall. "But we need to keep him out of the alley..."

Eerie Indiana Drabble: Cooling Draft
May. 9th, 2020 11:14 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I guess the kitchen part of the Kitchen gets pretty warm, because after the man from Everything Corn saw a plastic bag fluttering down the street and ran back inside his shop, I noticed that someone had propped open the service door to Grandmas' with a folding chair.
I figured they'd only leave it open like that if someone was inside, so I went over there."

Tod hesitated for a moment before asking, with palpable reluctance:
"Is there?"
Marshall shrugged.
"I've never found any proof," he said. "That doesn't mean it isn't true, though; I've seen weirder things since moving here"
Tod looked at the wardrobe, the mouse within casting a faint green glow visible even through the hanging forest of cloth.
"Yeah," he said with a sigh. "I get that."
He rubbed his eyes, started again.

"Anyway," said Tod, his voice brittle at the edges and full of a forced brightness that did nothing to hide the shadows.
He coughed and tried again.
"Anyway, I was waiting in the alley, and I was going to talk to the Grandma when she finished with the Tostwich, but then that old guy who runs Everything Corn comes out and starts asking questions about inflatable animals, like have I seen any and do I work for them."

"Anyway, after about an hour the bulk of the lunch rush had cleared out, and I heard one of the Grandmas' say she was going to anoint the Tostwitch with sacred oil and then go stretch her legs for a few minutes."
"I went outside and kinda loitered in the alley that runs behind Everything Corn. And that's when..."

Yea......it’s like we have all these film a movie ties and of course Hoosiers, but the Jackson five were from here! And with lesser praise Guns N’ Roses.......but we don’t have conventional things to do and we are still very blatantly segregated.

They did away with that this year and the food scene of Indy is killing it but it’s still primarily corn and soy and all that that implies and demands
