Announcing…. the FTH Unlisted Fandoms ChallengeLast week, @zebraljb reblogged our signups announcement and commented that “they don’t have Kingsman on their list of fandoms, but if enough people sign up, I bet they do next year!”
And that got us thinking.
Although FTH takes the “pan-fandom” thing seriously, we the mods always end up leaving a few important fandoms off the list. We’ve accepted that we’re never going to get it exactly right…. but we are serious about wanting everyone to feel included, and about trying to recruit creators from as many fandoms as possible.
And so, to encourage participations from all corners of the fandom-sphere, we are announcing the Unlisted Fandoms Challenge.
In a nutshell: every couple of days, we will post a progress report on auction signups that make use of the “other fandom” category: that is, any fandom that isn’t included on the list in our 2019 signup form. We’ll tell you which fandom is in the lead for the most signups so far, and which fandoms are giving it a run for its money.
We’re hoping that you, the defenders and enthusiasts of fandoms that we (so foolishly! so carelessly!) neglected to include, will take this opportunity to show us how doofy we were for leaving that fandom out.
The challenge will run until February 1st, which is also when 2019 auction signups close. There is no official prize for the winning fandom… other than the fact that those fans will have a large number of awesome fanworks to bid on! And really, what better prize could there be?
We currently have a list of 82 fandoms not found in our dropdown list that contributors have signed up to create fanworks for. At the moment, there is a tie for top contender - both Kingsman and Venom have 6 signups, though, if we were to group together the folks who want to offer MCU fanworks for Thor, Ironman, Avengers, or Captain America, that set would take the lead with 7 signups. Close behind are Stargate: Atlantis with 4 signups, and Fantastic Beasts, Hockey RPF, James Bond, Marvel Comics, and Stranger Things, each with 3 signups. Nine other fandoms have 2 signups.
Which fandoms will show up in force? Which fandoms will show us how out-of-the-loop we were for overlooking them? We can’t wait to see.
Heading into the weekend the numbers have shifted just a bit on our ‘Unlisted Fandoms Challenge’ leaderboard. Our leader is still Kingsmen, and they’re still followed by Venom, Stargate: Atlantis, and Stranger Things, but after that, things are changed up a bit. Additionally, during the course of the week, 5 new fandoms have been added to the list, bringing the total of unlisted fandoms to 99. Here is the list of how things stand now by number of signups -
