OK
SO
at the beginning of ATM, Marshall is wearing an orange sweatshirt
and simon is wearing a blue shirt
look at nick and eddy, the one on the left is wearing an orange varsity jersey, and then the other is wearing orange too but there's a flap of blue inside his jacket
look here, nick and eddy both wearing orange, marshall is now wearing blue
im building a colour based theory bare with me
simon, who now has money from the ATM is now wearing orange
its all coming together
mr wilson's bowtie is orange, not red
now look at simon at his coolest, he's wearing an orange shirt AND he has an orange hat
and MARSHALL is wearing BLUE
as you can see here, Marshall is still wearing blue, but he has a red/orange overshirt on top, and the amount of orange on simon has decreased dramatically
...now my theory is starting to lose wind but i think i can pull this through
my theory is that the colour orange in ATM signifies who has the power in the relationship
it starts with Marshall, Nick and Eddy all wearing orange while Simon wears blue, saying that Marshall, Nick and Eddy all have power while Simon has none
however, as soon as Marshall starts hanging out with Nick and Eddy, he starts wearing blue because he's the weakest link the group while Simon, who is now flush with that Mr Wil$on Money is wearing orange to show that now he has money, he has the power
When Simon is at his coolest, not only is he wearing orange, but he's carrying it too. Marshall, who has seemingly been given a taste of his own medicine by Simon is now playing second fiddle to him
is wearing dark blue, and blue jeans
When confronting Simon, who is bankruping the town, Mars is wearing both blue and orange. blue to show that he actually doesn't have the power in the relationship, but an orange overshirt to symbolize that he's acting like he does, or perhaps that he has power over simon but NOT over Nick and Eddy, who are still both dressed in orange. Simon, who is quite easily convinced to give up his cash for the sake of the town only has a small amount of orange on his outfit. perhaps to symbolize that while he still has some power, ultimately it's not a lot because Nick and Eddy brush him off with ease
Finally, the shot of Marshall in double denim and Simon in orange. personally, I think that this could mean that Simon is really the one with power over Marshall, not the other way around. Could be that having Simon, a young and easily convinced friend gives Marshall the power to be as unhinged and weird as he wants without concern that his friends will leave him, and that if Simon DOES leave than Mars will have to confront the fact that he (at this point in the series) has no other friends and ultimately he knows he's a small fry compared to Nick and Eddy
or maybe all this uni shit has driven me insane
