I am obviously way out of the demographic age, but as a long fan of similar shows (Eerie Indiana and So Weird notably, and also newer things like Stranger Things), I had to at least give Secrets of Sulphur Springs a shot.

The plot begins simply enough: Griffin, a middle school aged kid is upset when his father uproots the family from Chicago and moves them to Sulphur Springs, Louisiana, where he plans to renovate and reopen an abandoned hotel. A hotel that the locals insist is cursed. Harper, a girl Griffin befriends at school tells him the rest of the story- 30 years ago a girl named Savannah Dillon went missing from a summer camp near the hotel and ever since then there have been sightings of her ghost.

The first episode comes to an end with Griffin and Harper exploring the hotel. They find a basement with a creepy hallway that leads to a fallout shelter. On the other end, is a hatch that the two climb through- and emerge in 1990, where they encounter not just Savannah, the missing girl before she disappeared, but also Griffin's father and Harper's mother, both campers at the same camp Savannah was. And neither of whom ever mentioned that they even knew her.

The plot's not exactly new ground, but it is well done. It's been a long time since a Disney Channel show has aired that's not a comedy, and I don't think I've ever seen a live action series on the network that was properly serialized, where stories weren't self-contained to each episode and each one led into the next. The acting's not going to win any awards, but the kids are a cut above your average Goosebumps episode. The adults do have a bit of a case of "Adults are Useless" and refusing the share relevant information in regards to the plot, but they get some scenes to themselves. And the lush scenery of Louisiana where it was filmed lends a lovely atmosphere (even if it is rather strange that NO ONE in the cast has any accent at all).

(And not to go into spoilers, but after 9 episode of the first season- the vibe I'm most getting from the overall plot is more Dark than Stranger Things)

Eerie, Indiana! They had so much potential for more stories in that universe

justAskn4afriend: I still remember that fucking tupperware

ElChambon: Yep. Read the shows name in the comment above and this was the first thing to pop into my head. That and some episode where a kid made a friend with an ATM and it gave him money.

mrtomhimself: I vaguely recall this from when I was a kid, it was a very weird, wonderful show

waiting_for_Falkor: I loved this as a kid!!

MonkeyChoker80: Didn’t they make a ‘sequel series’ like, 10 years later? If I remember right they had Marshall and crew discover an alternate universe Eerie, and then the show followed the new kids’ adventures.

Brocky70: I did a quick research on wikipedia:

It originally aired on ABC kids in 1991 but failed to get much audience. Years later fox kids aired it on Saturday morning, giving it an unexpected rise in popularity. So fox ordered a "sequel" series that was basically the same set up but with different actors, but it didn't have the same reaction, so it got axed after one season

Reminds me of seasons 3 and 4 of goosebumps, fox wanted more stories that were "easier to adapt" for television, so they just wrote their own ideas that had no basis from the books, fans didnt care for the difference, so it canned as well

squawkingood: I thought it got a second season, but for some reason the second season only aired 4 episodes. I remember they promoted the gray haired kid to the main cast for those episodes.

plzdonteatthedaisies: Ooh, I remember this one! Really enjoyed it!

TenderMarcy: Holy crap yes thank you!!

SeymourZ: The kid with the grey hair

I used to love these two shows. I was around 7 when they came out but they were different to than the usual teen comedy genre. More surrealistic. It’s a shame that neither lasted a longtime. Parker Lewis has a decent run But Eerie Indiana Only aired 19 episodes I think. I know the kid who was the main character in that went on to be in one of my favorite 90s movies Matinee directed by Joe Dante. Anyway two great cult shows

I rewatched Eerie, Indiana last year on Amazon Prime. Held up pretty well to me. I miss these type of shows.

Muroid: They keep the episodes stored in Foreverware.

DesperatePleasure: Loved both of these shows. With Erie, one episode a girl with a hear transplant or something. I think she was in Roseanne for a bit. First TV crush or the moment I hit puberty cause my chest felt like it was gonna explode.

Duckstomp: For some reason I remember there was a scene in Parker Lewis with a banner in the background that says, "thanks for not watching Eerie Indiana" or something similar.

vman_isyourhero: Dude from Eerie Indiana is the main in Hocus Pocus and now he's a weed man.

NoPastaForGrandma: For any eerie Indiana fans, I highly recommend Gravity Falls. Because it’s an animated Disney show aimed at kids I would never have watched it if it weren’t for countless praises by adult critics as suitable for adults. Then I read an interview with the creator who literally said that he loved Eerie Indiana as a kid and that you can’t pitch a show as “basically this show I like a lot that got cancelled too soon but new” but that’s essentially what it is.

Same general vibe, but even better: funnier and an overarcing plot throughout the series. Worth checking out if you have fond memories of Eerie Indiana.

SANTOSHiHoHiHoHiHo: Haven't seen Parker Lewis since the 90's. Eerie Indiana is still great.

TheColorWolf: That corn episode of eerie gave me nightmares. I love it.

ChrisTosi: Didn't Eerie, Indiana come out a couple of years after Parker Lewis?

80sBadGuy: There was a period of time I considered Eerie, Indiana the best show on television.

And that period is now!

I would buy the distribution rights to all the 80s/90s/2000s TV shows I liked that were never released on DVD or streaming and put them out in HD, mostly so I can watch them.

Eerie, Indiana RIGHT GODDAMN NOW please and thank you
