Eerie, Indiana fanfiction: Back to School

Written for Day 24 of the 31_days October challenge. The prompt for this one was "last days of summer"



Marshall surveyed the massed ranks of back-to-school shoppers with dismay. Not since the World o’ Stuff’s ill-fated Midnight Madness sale had he witnessed this level of consumer-driven carnage. A teenager with her curly blonde hair worn in a high ponytail wrestled the last remaining Snoopy trapper-keeper from a small child in denim dungarees who was sucking on a stick of brightly coloured rock candy.

As Marshall watched, the younger child pulled the stick of rock from his mouth, revealing a pointed edge obtained through hours of careful chewing, and plunged it into the older teen’s hand. The teenager went down in a flurry of blood and screams, and the tousle-haired poppet with a sequinned butterfly on his jumper seized the bright yellow Snoopy folder and vanished amidst a sea of legs.

“It’s certainly busy today,” said his mother.

“I don’t think I need a new jacket after all,” he said. “How about we get lunch at the Black Dragon instead?”

Marilyn looked relieved.

Wow! Back to school shopping at Eerie puts almost every Black Friday sale story I've ever heard to shame...

There was a story last year about a guy being trampled in Tescos because people were rushing to buy TVs etc and all the coverage made it sound like it was Tescos fault for not having predicted it and getting enough security, even though OH MY GOD SORRY FOR BELIEVING IN BASIC HUMAN DECENCY ABOUT NOT TRAMPLING A GUY FOR A FUCKING TELEVISION!
