evilinsanemonkey: Marshall Teller and Dash X from Eerie Indiana making eyes at each other (Eerie: Dash/Mars)

Please list the following books in order from the book you're most excited to read to least:

Lockwood & Co. by Jonathan Stroud
Johannes Cabal the Necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard
The Big Woof Conspiracy by Dashe Roberts
Tales from the Gas Station vol 1 by Jack Townsend
A Place Called Perfect by Helena Duggan
Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk

I will use the rankings to develop a reading order for the next few months.

Also full disclosure, I haven't been reading this month's book because Life and my terrible attention span. So I was thinking if we wanted we could take a short hiatus for September and resume in October? Give people a chance to get caught up on any books they haven't read and want to? If that makes sense?

lemme know!

July comes to a close and that means it's time for our discussion post on Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero!

Here are some questions to get you started:

1. What did you least expect that happened in this book?

2. How do you think a similar plot would play out in Eerie-verse?

Our next book is The Longing and the Lack by CM Spivey. The discussion post will go up August 31st!

Also reminder that we have our Nominations post for our next round of books, so head on over and throw in your ideas

We are coming up on the 31st of July which will bring the discussion post for Meddling Kids and we have a book set for August, but after that we need to nominate some more books! Comment on this post with any books you want to read for the Virtual Book Club and in August I'll put up a voting post!

If you don't want to go through the tag, here are the books we already did/will do:
- Bone Gap
- The Rest of Us Just Live Here
- Lumberjanes
- Maybird and the Ever After
- Paper Girls
- Welcome to Night Vale
- Meddling Kids
- The Longing and the Lack

As we wrap up another month (wtf is time even), it's time to discuss our next book club book: Welcome to Night Vale.

Some questions to get you going:

- In what ways does Night Vale remind you of Eerie?
- In what ways are they different?
- Do you think, given enough time, Eerie might one day become what Night Vale is? Why or why not?

And of course, feel free to bring up whatever topics interest you!

Also reminder that the discussions for these are ALWAYS open so if you're "behind" (honestly no such thing, read whenever you want or can!) or if you reread a book and have new thoughts, feel free to jump in at any time!

Next book: Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
discussion post will go up July 31st.

Also sometime in July I will be posting a nomination post for new books, as I only have us scheduled through August, so start thinking of books you want to nominate!

Apologies for not posting this yesterday it has

been a week/weekend.

ANYWAY here we are to talk about Vol 1 of Paper Girls!

An Eerie question to get you going:

- How do you think this would play out in Eerie? Same? different? Similar but also different?

Our next book is:

Welcome to Night Vale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor. You do not need to have listened to the podcast to understand this book, in case anyone who hasn't listened wants to join us. The book stands on it's own very well!

Discussion post will go up June 30 (this time I swear I won't forget xD)

Full disclosure: I didn't have a chance to read this.

For those who did:

What about it makes you think of Eerie?

And whatever other discussion topics you want to...discuss.

Our next book is: Paper Girls book 1 by Brian K. Vaughn and the discussion post for that will go up May 31st.

Remember, you can always go to past discussion posts and revive discussions if you read/reread a book!

You thought I forgot!! Okay I did forget but only in that I Forgot today was March 31 because this is the month that never fucking ends

So, let's talk about Lumberjanes!

Some questions to get you going:

- What Eerie characters could you see being Lumberjanes?

- On a scale of 1 to 10, how much trouble would the trio get in to?

- What badges do you think the Eerie characters would have earned? What badges do you think they'd make up to fit their own experiences?

Next book:
Maybird and the Ever After by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Discussion post goes up April 30

Good evening/morning/afternoon/time zones are weird AF.

First and foremost, I want to apologize profusely for how bad I've been about this, I promise to do better this year.

For those new to this, the idea is we pick a book to read over the course of a month, and then we have a discussion post! If you'd like to see what we've read previously, you can visit the book club tag and feel free to jump into any of the discussion posts already up!

Our next book is: Lumberjanes Vol. 1 and the discussion post will go up March 31st

Also: I have us scheduled up through August, so I will put up a new nomination post around mid-June and voting will go up in early July.

Happy reading!

Not that I'm good at follow through... *stares at book club* (I promise I'll get that back up and running while I'm out recovering, if it's still something you guys wanna do. I have QUITE a list of books that are relevant).

Anyway.

1. I was talking with D, as I do frequently, about how cool it would be if Eerie fans got to write for any Eerie reboot - because HONESTLY I cannot imagine Eerie continuing without some of the amazing fanon this fandom has come up with. So I had a thought that we could have like. An Eerie writers' room and...create Eerie scripts? And then maybe do an Eerie Continues podcast or something?

I'm not sure how that would work wrt fair use/copyright, but I'm sure we could find a work around. If worse came to worst we could just treat them like podfic. I still have my kiwi6 account that doesn't get nearly enough use.

2. I'm rereading "Pairing: Pendragon/Merlin" cuz it's one of my favorite fics ever written and always gives me warm fuzzies, but it's also making me think about how fandom changes over time and all that and there's also a trans positive Harry Potter zine in the works so I thought: If I curated an Eerie Zine would anyone be interested in a) contributing to it and b) having a copy?

Anyway this is what my brain does when I have too much time to think, apparently.

(DEAREST FROODS, MASTER ARCHIVIST OF EERIE FANDOM, I have no idea how to tag this, I apologize)

Welcome back to the Eerie Indiana Virtual Book Club! This month we're discussing Patrick Ness's "The Rest of Us Just Live Here"

Some questions to get you started:

General

-Do you think Jared successfully avoided being an Indie Kid?

-How does friendship factor into the story? How about family?

Eerie

-What Eerie characters would be Indie kids?

-We know Mars and Simon are aware of the weirdness of Eerie, but do you think if the Eerie-verse was similar to the book's universe that they would be as aware of that as Mike and his friends are?

Next Book: Lumberjanes Volume 1
Discussion: May 19th

First, I apologize profusely for forgetting to put this up on Saturday. But I figure I'll get it up today and we can spend the week just chatting about the book. Have it be a nice relaxed thing!

So without further ado, let's talk about Laura Ruby's Bone Gap!

Some questions to get you started:

General

+ Do you think Petey is right about why Finn likes her? Do you think it matters?

+ What do you think the place Roza was taken is?

+ How does this book handle family?

Eerie

+ In what ways does this book make you think of Eerie?

+ What do you think the characters of Eerie and the characters of Bone Gap would think of each other?

Next book: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
Discussion: April 22

Also we need a tie breaker! "May Bird and the Ever After" and "Lumberjanes" are tied, so let me know which one you'd like to read first!

All right, I want to thank you guys for making the first book tallying easy!

We are starting with

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby

Discussion post will go up the third Saturday in March, the 16th. That gives us about 4 weeks to read the book, but if you need us to push it back don't hesitate to let me know (private message me, as I am still not getting comment notifications).

Enjoy the book!

All right, so. Instead of doing a poll I decided for voting, at least for this round, we're going to rank the nominations. There are Seven nominations, so: number 1 is the book you most want to read first, number 7 is the book you least want to read first. I'll then use some Super Secret Tallying to either pick our first book or create a tie-breaker vote, depending on how this works out.

And the Nominations Are
May Bird and the Ever After by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
Paper Girls vol. 1 by Brian K. Vaughn
Lumberjanes Vol. 1 by Noelle Stevenson
Welcome to Nightvale by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor

Hello fellow Eerie-ites!

I was talking with Deifire about book clubs yesterday and it got me thinking about how so many things remind me of Eerie and I thought maybe it would be cool if we had a virtual book club where we read books that are Eerie-esque and then put up a discussion post where we all chat about the book!

If that's something you'd be interested in, please hop on down in the comments with:
-Days that would work best for discussion posts to go up
-Books you'd like to read
-How long you'd like to take with each book (monthly, bimonthly... I know we all have different schedules and I want to make sure this is fun for everyone and doesn't feel overwhelming)
