if you'll all humor me for a hot minute

i think that the fundamental flaw of The Other Dimension is a misunderstanding of the character of Marshall Teller

it was a mistake, I think, to make Mitchell an Eerie Native because it takes away one of the most compelling aspects of Marshall's character, and the one that I find deeply relatable and that's that he is always the outsider

Marshall has to be an outsider looking in to get even an inkling of the angle that Eerie is normal, he's just a kid with an active imagination

his only friend seems to be a kid who doesn't care like Devon, or a kid much younger than he is and at an age where he probably would just blindly believe a cool older kid like Simon

obv as the show goes on it's pretty clear that Marshall is right and Eerie is fricken weird

Mitchell is still an outsider, in a lot of scenes. Specifically in the joke episode Stanley refers to him as Mitch 'Spooky Stuff' Taylor implying that he has a reputation like Marshall's but most of the time we dont see it

even in the first episode, he says that 'downtown glows sometimes, it's nbd' when Marshall would already b downtown taking pics of the glow

mitch finds a frog in his fridge and is like 'huh weird'

and his ceral starts moving and he's like 'odd'

we dont really ever get an explanation as to why Mitch has no friends his own age. for marshall, it makes sense but mitchell...not really

TOD loses the unreliable narrator angle, and i think that's for the worse

and im saying this as someone who would lay down her life for mitchell taylor
