The Duffer Brothers' Stranger Things seemingly came out of nowhere to capture the world's imagination, and it paid off for Netflix. The show performed better than Daredevil and even prestige series House of Cards, and the second season arrives on Oct. 27 just in time for Halloween.

In a teaser trailer, Will Byers has returned from the Upside Down, but as the closing scenes of season one suggested, he's not completely free from the nightmarish alternative reality. During a trip to the arcade with his friends, Will suddenly returns to the Upside Down and witnesses a menacing sky and a flash of The Monster, until Mike snaps him out of it.

"A bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived," according to Netflix.

The gang is on the case, with the help of some essential 80s gear—Ghostbusters proton packs and ghost traps. But their secret weapon is still in the Upside Down; or is she?

If you're twiddling your thumbs until season two arrives, or you quickly power through it come Oct. 27, there are plenty of insanely good TV shows that capture one element or another of the Stranger Things vibe. Here's our rundown of shows to watch to slake your thirst for weird science, small-town horror, and sweet synthesizers.

13 Eerie, Indiana: This short-lived cult 90s show only lasted 19 episodes, but it might be the closest precursor to Stranger Things out there. It even takes place in the same state! The show tells the tale of Marshall Teller, who moved to the titular town and quickly found himself embroiled in a number of supernatural happenings.

The tone of Eerie, Indiana was way ahead of its time, mixing humor and suspense in equal parts. And, like Stranger Things, the kids were far and away the stars. One of the best episodes, "The Lost Hour," features Marshall turning his clock back for Daylight Savings (Indiana ignores it) and winding up stranded outside of the flow of time.

Sadly, Netflix removed Eerie, Indiana from streaming a little while back, but you can buy season one on Amazon or stream both seasons as part of the Comic-Con HQ add-on, which runs $4.99 per month after a free, 7-day trial.

I hope you’ve watched ‘Stranger Things 3’ because, if you haven’t, this will ruin it a little bit for you.

But first, a small introduction to Icelandic culture: The winter is long, blah blah blah, we watch American TV a lot and here we are on the third series of ‘Stranger Things.’ For people born in the seventies this is everything.

The brown and oranges of the early eighties are slowly making way for rainbows and glowing neon lights. Latchkey kids on their BMXs have to fend for themselves and save the world.

I can relate so hard to this Gremlins/Ghostbusters/Goonies/Eerie, Indiana stew that it makes my heart bleed slimy pink mystery goo. There is nothing wrong with this and I can watch it forever… but I have a few grievances (very minor, don’t worry).

It is obvious to me that this is written mostly by boys with cooties. Why else would all the men be so incredibly unattractive? Hopper is a grumpy dominating man and has ventured to the outer limits of the dad-bod aesthetic. Billy’s cowardly lion hair ruins everything else and when he turned evil I always snapped out of the fear because of his silly mullet perm and babyface. Jonathan is a boring worrywart. And then there’s Steve. I love his character development throughout the series. He evolves from a beautiful jerk to a beautiful semi-nice guy.

I just realized that objectifying young men is pretty disgusting so I’ll move along to the end. Suzie! Yeah I’m looking at you Suzie. Your song was only half-adorable and if you hadn’t made Dustin sing it with you Hopper might have lived. I didn’t want him to date Joyce, but I wanted him to be Eleven’s dad forever.

I’m personally holding you accountable, you little dweeb.
